ISO 29001 Petrochemical and Natural Gas
This document defines quality management system requirements for product and service supply organizations to the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries.
This document is written as a supplement to ISO 9001:2015. The supplementary requirements and guidance to ISO 9001:2015 have been developed to manage supply chain risks and opportunities associated with the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries and to provide a framework for aligning requirements with complementary standards employed within the industries.
The main benefit of the High Level structure in ISO Management Systems is its integration capabilities. Because ISO 29001:2020 follows this structure, systems already compliant or certified to ISO 9001:2015 will be approximately 75% compliant to the 29001 Standard. Essentially, this is an ISO 9001:2015 standard with additional best practices and guidance from API (American Petroleum Institute) specifications. Manufacturing organizations will include additional sector requirements via API Spec Q1, while Service and Supply organizations can use API Spec 2 for their supplemental requirements. Most organizations accept ISO 9001 standard as the benchmark for quality, however specific Tier 1 Organization and High Risk Industries require API specifications because of their relevance to the associated and inherent risks. ISO 29001:2020 complies with both the Petroleum specifications and the International Quality System requirements
