What Is Gost Certification

According to the order of the State Customs Committee of Russia (01.10.2000), products manufactured outside of the Russian Federation must meet the current national quality standards, therefore, they are subject to certification. These are called GOSTcertifications, the most common of which is the GOST R certificate. The GOST R certificate allows a foreign manufacturer to do two things:
1. To clear customs for the product to enter Russia
2. To allow the receiving company to legally sell the product within RussiaProducts manufactured by non-Russian companies are assessed by government-approved experts, and then the product may receive the GOST approval. With the GOST certification, and the resulting GOST certificate of conformity, products are then guaranteed to easily pass through Russian customs houses to enter the country, and are also approved to be sold within Russia.Russian companies and organizations must only sell GOST certified products. They are forbidden to import or sell any product that has not been previously approved, as evidenced by the certificates that accompany each shipment.Contact us now for a free quote! The Law regarding the Certification of Products and Services stipulates two types of certifications – mandatory and voluntary certification. The Law of Protection of the Rights of Consumers and the Law on Standardization regulates this mandatory certification process and identifies the products that are subject to this type of certification. Is the Russian GOST Certification required for my company’s specific products?
Russia is a unique country and has unique requirements for safety. If you plan to trade with Russia, you should know and understand the Russian requirements for certification. The Russian standards are different from other types of product standards, and for the most part are not harmonized with the European or International standards. For example, the CE Marking self-declaration is not recognized in Russia and cannot replace the Russian Certificate of Conformity.Basically, almost all consumer products require mandatory certification; it includes all food products, products for children, perfume and cosmetics, tableware and kitchenware, packaging materials, household and industrial equipment, etc.Depending on the nature of the goods you are planning to ship to Russia (or to another CIS country), you may need to comply with one or more certification requirements. There are 19 mandatory certification systems regulated by the Laws of the Russian Federation (“GOST R”, “Elektrosvyaz”, “Fire Safety”, etc…) and over 300 voluntary ones.Currently, the GOST R Certificate of Conformity is the most common certification document in Russia – testifying that your product meets necessary safety standards. In 1993, SGS was accredited by Gosstandart of Russia (former name for the Federal Agency on the Technical Regulation and Metrology) to provide GOST R certification services.
